The internet can be a wonderful place filled with online puzzle games for kids, or it can be a minefield of information that while useful and relevant to teens and adults isn’t appropriate for the younger set. Because of this, there is a need for a kid safe browser. If it is a free kid safe browser, then that is even better!

There is no reason to keep a child away from the internet altogether as there is a lot of benefit that can be found in children’s educational websites (kids online math games are one example) and the free games online for children to play to strengthen their academic foundations. The trouble lies in finding the right balance of parental permissions and functionality in a children’s web browser that will allow them to play games and explore the world without much worry about stumbling upon something they didn’t need to see.

Privacy is another concern for parents and guardians; there are lots of free games for children online, but many only allow for limited features before some sort of subscription is required. With the right permissions settings, a children’s web browser could be instructed to block access to those websites entirely. This might be disappointing to the kids, but with a few recommendations for more appropriate gaming sites (some browsers allow you to set homepages) can be right there when a child logs on to the internet. PBS, Disney, and many children’s television companies and networks offer free games for kids that can be played from a child-safe web browser.

Providing your computer is running on a recognized operating system (Windows and Mac are two) there are many different browsers that you can download free of charge in order to find the best option for your child. Why not download several and let them pick the one that they like best? This will allow them the freedom of choice while still giving you peace of mind knowing that they are as safe online as you can make them. The goal is to allow your children to learn and grow and explore while keeping them safe from privacy threats, viruses, and questionable web content.

With the right web browser and permission settings you should be able to let your child explore the wide world of the internet and play all of the online games they desire without having to worry about many of the common pitfalls awaiting the average web user today.
